First Annual Celtic Music Festival
Tuesday, 11 March 2008

We had another GREAT weekend in Dahlonega celebrating the first annual Celtic Music Festival.

Although the weather on Saturday was snowy and cold the gallery was full the whole day with shoppers and festival participants who came out to enjoy the events such as Irish and Scottish Fiddle workshops, a story and song session and a "spinning" presentation from one of our very own fiber artists Betty Johnson. Betty taught us about spinning wool into yarn and explained the various clothes worn by Scottish women several hundred years ago....(and these were just the events that took place inside our gallery. There was much more to see and do throughout town!!)

It was a great day for all and Sunday proved to be even better with beautiful weather and the sounds of bagpipes filling the air. Hummingbird Lane served delicious desserts made by Atlanta's own "Tuda Homemade Desserts". I'd have to say that the red velvet cupcakes, the triple chocolate cupcakes and sugar cookies were the highlight of the weekend. If you want to treat yourself to the south's BEST desserts please visit owner Peli Bortei-Doku's website http://store.fastcommerce.com/tudahomemadedesserts

The next festival in Dahlonega will be the Bear on the Square Festival in April. This is one of the BEST festivals of the year where you'll find a bluegrass band on every corner and in every venue as well as great arts and crafts from local artists. For more details please visit www.bearonthesquare.org

Here's wishing everyone well!

Todd
