Lots of Great Happenings in Dahlonega!May 2008 Newsletter First, we’d like to let you know about all of the events coming up in Dahlonega in May! The Big News this month is the kickoff of the “First Friday Night Concert Series” on the Connor House Lawn. Dahlonega's "First Friday Night Concert Series"The “First Friday Night Concert Series” in Downtown Dahlonega went into overdrive on May 2 with Emerald Rose. The free event is the beginning of a thrilling six-month schedule of outdoor concerts. The shows will be at the beautiful Conner House Lawn at the corner of North Chestatee and Warwick Streets. Bring friends, family, and lawn chairs for family fun in downtown Dahlonega. The concerts are held from 6:30-8:30 pm. Arrive early, enjoy excellent downtown shopping, and pick up your picnic from any of downtown’s popular restaurants. The “First Friday Night Concert Series” is produced by the City of Dahlonega’s Better Hometown Program and Downtown Development Authority. All concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Dancing and socializing are encouraged. MAY'S "FIRST SATURDAY" was a great opportunity to visit Hummingbird Lane Art Gallery and five other Dahlonega galleries. We have gallery tour maps for you with the locations of other galleries all within walking distance of each other. April marked the first of the series of Appalachian Jams on the Square. Check out our website for details, but rest assured, every Saturday the Square will be filled with the sounds of old time Bluegrass, serenading you while you shop! Every Saturday on the old Courthouse lawn from 1-5 p.m. May 17-18 marks the next Mountain Flower Fine Art Festival, a juried art show Mountain Flower Art Festival is the third weekend in May. It features juried original fine art and fine craft of regional artists. The festival is located on the historic square of Dahlonega, and also celebrates the local and area mountain wildflowers. The Dahlonega Master Gardeners also will be holding their annual plant sale, along with a wildflower display and Garden Expo with workshops. For more information, visit the Mountain Flower Arts Show. April was a great month for us. It seems as if people are ready to come out of hiding, just like the bears do when they celebrate Bear on the Square. We were the market place sponsors for this year’s Bear on the Square, and honestly, I can’t tell you enough about the time we had here! The Carolina Chocolate Drops showed up Sunday afternoon for a workshop here in the gallery. We’ve never seen such a crowd up here – it was amazing!.
Then, as if that wasn’t enough excitement for one month, the Tour de Georgia came rolling into town, April 25. We had been asked by the chamber to organize some artwork for a mini-artisan market. Mike Miller painted an amazing painting, which we have for sale here in the gallery. Here’s the painting, and we also have posters available for $40 each.
I made platters that the Tour de Georgia used for the winners of the Stage 5 race, which ended here in Dahlonega. Check this out!
So, now we’re into May, and we’re really excited that spring and summer will find you here, hopefully! We’ve certainly been getting ready for you: lots of new artwork, activities and plans being made, in your honor! Come see us! Sorry the newsletter didn’t get out in time for you to enjoy the first Friday and Saturday events. We are working on a new newsletter system, and hopefully we’ll have it working properly next month! Also check out our new website regularly. We are adding new content all the time! www.hummingbirdlaneartgallery.com - Todd, Amy and Bonnie
