Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life. - Picasso.>

Accomplished impressionist painter Cheri Burchard began painting at the young age of nine in Pennsylvania. Influenced by an impressionistic painting in her childhood home, she made it a full-time profession in 1994. When asked about her inspiration, she responded, “For me, art is informed and formed by my faith. Paintings are often birthed in prayer.”

Catherine Pichon

From the Artist:

"My landscapes, floral and still life paintings are inspried by my native Appalachian mountains. The beauty of the eastern mountains and its rich heritage are a constant source of joy an ddelight. I strive to share this pleasure in my paintings. My favorite medium is watercolor, but I also paint in acrylic, oil pastel, and occasionally pen and ink. I may paint the same subject several times, but each painting is different and original."

Catherine has always worked with art but painting did not become a passion until 1989 while taking a local watercolor class. Art then became a very important part of her life. She did extensive self study and studied under many nationally known artists before beginning to show her work. In 1994 her work began appearing in local shows and now can be found in juried shows and galleries across the region, including Hummingbird Lane Art Gallery.

I began to throw in the early 70’s (1970s, not my age) in Mississippi. It just began as a lark, something interesting to try..then I was hooked. I continued my pottery in Virginia: showing in galleries, in craft shows and as a potter-in-residence. My son, who was a baby at the time, slept in his basket below the display table at craft shows, and watched me throw from his swing.

Elizabeth Haskins

Elizabeth Haskins is a wonderful silver smith who lives in Mobile, Alabama. Her sister lives here in Dahlonega, and that's how we came to know of Elizabeth and her husband, Bob, who is a potter.

Elizabeth works with silver and precious stones, often turquoise. Recently, she has been inspired by an event that would change her and Bob's lives forever. While dealing with this event, Elizabeth and Bob both had a hard time, and turned to their artwork often to just move through the day. However, some of the work that began to appear had significance in their mutual grieving, and Elizabeth found herself growing as an artist, and dealing with this event began to change her work.

She first brought into the gallery beautiful, simple, silver bangles, which she called "Story Bracelets." Currently I have one story bracelet, and it reads, "I add my breath to your breath, so that our days may be long on this earth." It's stunning in its simplicity, and in it's story.

I hope you'll enjoy Elizabeth's work! And if we're lucky, we'll have a wonderful new collection of Bob's pottery soon to show you!

"I have always had an appreciation for fine woodwork, architectural and furniture. I am comforted by the resilient feel underfoot of a fine wood floor and the soft smoothness of a well used handrail. I am most drawn to pieces that emphasize the natural beauty of the grain and figure of wood and to simple and functional designs of everyday utilitarian objects such as seen in the Shaker heritage and the work of George Nakashima and Sam Maloof. I work with both power and hand tools to produce furniture that is pleasing to the eye, satisfying to the touch and functional in use."

While Gary's rocking chair is no longer in the gallery, we are able to take special orders. If you are lucky enough to have sat in one of his chairs while they were here, you'll know this is one of the most special rocking chair makers in the country! Please call for details, as Gary is able to make a chair using your specific body dimensions!
